Bilateral Non-Traumatic Acute Subdural Hematoma in Newborn

Acute subdural hematoma is a very rare pathology in the newborn, although a few cases have been reported in the literature. The most common reason is birth trauma. Its frequency increases especially in deliveries with the use of external fixators as vacuum or forceps,

Our newborn case, admitted to our clinic post-natal 5th day because of swelling on his head. The story of the last 3 days, very slept and bloom learned that. There was no history of birth trauma. Our case’s neurological examination is normal. In cranial computed tomography, there were bilateral acute subdural hematomas in the parietal region and plastering acute bilateral subdural hematoma was detected extending from temporal to occipital lobe. Surgery was not considered. During follow-up of the patient, neurological state did not worsen. On the sixth day of hospitalization, she was discharged.

For patients with clinically or radiologically increased intracranial pressure, surgery may be required. CT should be preferred for the diagnosis and follow-up of the patients.
