Abstract

This case report is the analysis of two patients who had surgery for status trigeminal neuralgia, which is a rare and extreme form requiring immediate treatment. One of the patients was thought to be a case of glossopharyngeal neuralgia after the surgical finding that the ninth nerve was under compression. In these special status syndromes the patients are prone to become unable to be fed or speak by unremitting attacks of neuralgia and this situation can be life threatening. Microvacular decompression was the last resort for these patients with a history of unsuccessful trials of other treatment methods and found to be extremely effective.
